Analyze the core components of a rhetorical situation including the author's purpose, target audience, genre constraints, and situational context to make audience-centered choices regarding tone, language, and medium.
Construct accurate, non-circular technical definitions tailored to the reader's expertise level, employing appropriate structural formats (such as parenthetical, sentence-level, or expanded definitions) depending on the document's scope.
Write comprehensive technical descriptions of objects, mechanisms, or processes by selecting the most logical organizational scheme (general-to-specific, spatial, or chronological) and integrating clear visual specifications, such as labeled callout diagrams or tables.
Perform a task analysis by studying user workflows, interfaces, or product operations to systematically identify the real-world goals, obstacles, and precise procedures an end-user must navigate.
Distinguish between function-oriented and task-oriented writing to produce highly usable documentation, applying active, task-based phrasing to headings (e.g., "How to Adjust the Volume") and using structured, numbered sequences for multi-step instructions.

More than Memos is a YouTube account with some really great analyses of different examples of technical communication. With each module, I'll assign you a video to watch with a different example. Enjoy!
For this discussion, find a physical object around you---something small enough to analyze in detail, such as a tool, a piece of technology, an everyday household item, or a personal accessory. Your task is to write a clear, concise technical description of this object.
Your post should include:
A clear, well-structured technical description of the object, including:
Name of the object
Purpose or function
Physical characteristics (size, shape, materials, color, texture, etc.)
Key components or features
How it works or how it is used (if applicable)
A photo of the object to accompany your description
Make sure your description is objective, precise, and free of unnecessary personal opinions---think like a technical writer!
After posting your description, read your classmates' posts and provide feedback on at least one.
